Professional indemnity insurance requirements for SMOs

AMA Queensland wrote to Queensland Health following reports that some HHSs have requested SMOs confirm they hold professional indemnity insurance, including for patients who choose to be treated privately in the public system. Queensland Health responded to the letter, confirming SMOs are indemnified under Queensland Health human resources policy I2 for the clinical management of both public and private patients when undertaking their duties for Queensland Health, unless specifically excluded in the policy.
