Getting Rid of Stupid Stuff

AMA Queensland’s Workforce Action Plan recommends GROSS – Getting Rid of Stupid Stuff. These are the tasks that doctors identify as wholly unnecessary or of low value, that waste time and resources and cause frustration for both clinicians and patients.
Health Minister Tim Nicholls was very interested in this section of our action plan, asking AMA Queensland to provide examples of GROSS tasks that Queensland Health could address to make doctors’ work lives better and save health system costs. Our letter sets out the main areas our members encounter GROSS tasks, including:
- mandatory training (duplication or low value modules)
- onboarding and credentialling processes
- clerical and cleaning work
- nonsensical administrative and digital processes
- general practice patient forms, applications and requests
