General Medical Assessment Tribunals - Applications now open

The Queensland Government, Office of Industrial Relations has commenced the recruitment and selection process for medical specialists to join the General Medical Assessment Tribunals.

Medical assessment tribunals are established under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 to provide an independent and non-adversarial system of medical review and assessment of injury and impairment sustained by workers.

Injuries assessed by the tribunal cover the following specialties:

  • gastroenterology

  • general surgery

  • gynaecology

  • infectious diseases

  • internal medicine

  • maxillofacial surgery

  • occupational medicine

  • psychiatry

  • rehabilitation medicine

  • rheumatology

  •  thoracic medicine

  • urology

  •  vascular surgery

The Queensland Government invites applications from medical specialists in a number of specialties and is encouraging women in the relevant specialties to apply. At present only 20 percent of current tribunal members are women.
